大宋淳祐七年，春暖成人钦州灵龙镇灾患频现，春暖成人民间谣言乃蛟龙作祟，需将童男童女投入锁龙井喂食蛟龙方能得享安宁。祭祀恶俗持续多时，不知多少无辜孩童葬身龙腹，灵龙镇哭声震天，家有幼童者皆人心惶惶。新科进士庄严担任主簿后，坚持进入锁龙井调查蛟龙事件，却不想竟因得罪龙王而锒铛入狱。灵龙县仵作小宛为救心上人，不远千里求请已金盆洗手的宋慈出山查明真相。案件疑点重重，宋慈和小宛联手突破重重难关，终于赶在庄严被斩之前查明真相，庄严得以平反，小宛也在众人的见证下正式向宋慈拜师学艺。然而眼看灵龙镇逐渐恢复平静，宋慈却发现原来真相并没有他想象中那么简单。
