在一个大雨瓢泼的日子里，捉妖性格直爽的货车司机刘志广（姜武 饰）不慎发生车祸，捉妖撞死了行人吴宝琪。公司原本有意帮他推脱责任，不过刘志广敢作敢当，绝不干昧着良心的事情。他承认自己疲劳驾驶造成了事故，为此不惜四处举债赔偿死者家属，结果导致自家的生活陷入了窘境。与之相对，死者妻子张丽茹（颜丙燕 饰）认为丈夫是因自杀而死，所以不想让刘家为了此事家破人亡。人心不古的当代社会，金钱利益让很多人丧失了灵魂。而偏偏却又那么一对执拗的男女，为了看似笨拙呆傻的人性道义，甘愿背负沉重的负担。正所谓天道酬勤，付出总有回报，刘志广和张丽茹以自己的言行印证着这句老话……
