乔在父亲死后，婷婷陪母亲卡特琳娜赴意大利参加歌剧演出，婷婷却因寂寞而染上毒瘾，使卡特琳娜份外心痛，对乔百般迁就，竟使两人发展出一段畸恋，在道德觉醒下，幸未造成大错。卡特琳娜不得已将隐藏多年，乔另有生父的秘密说出，为使父母破镜重圆，乔乃前去找寻亲身父亲。导演用弗洛伊德的精神分析学说来阐述这对母子的行为，认为人的所有意义和能力都源自于性欲的需求，月亮是代表母亲和女性形象的载体，以隐喻母亲对儿子的性影响

回复 :一位維權女律師公然抨擊政權盲目鎮壓伊朗民間團體，換來律師牌照被吊銷，而她的記者丈夫也被迫逃匿。前路茫茫，她唯有設法逃離伊朗，但要獨自應付重重困難，既有官僚制度的欺壓，亦有針對女性的社會不公。導演借女主角的故事來比喻自己被政府打壓的遭遇，所以本片的拍攝過程只能低調進行。導演身兼監製及編劇，在這樣不利的環境下仍有膽量去批判現今伊朗社會。雖然在康城影展一種關注單元中勇奪導演大獎，但卻因其敢言作風而被禁止離國。
