电影放映员谦（Ter-Chantavit Dhanasevi 饰）因沉迷大麻而陷入经济危机，亚洲区毒瘾发作之际甚至不惜典当女友诵（Punch-Vorakarn Rojjanavatchra 饰）的手表，亚洲区为此诵愤然离开。决心洗心革面的谦此时仍在泥潭之中，为了还上欠款，他被黑道人物逼迫盗录还未上映的新片，以谋取不义之财。某晚，谦和好友育在影院盗录一部即将上映的恐怖片《厉鬼》。中途打瞌睡的谦醒来，却发现育已不见踪影，最后竟发现育的尸体出现在影片之中。不久后他得知，影片根据一个真实事件改编，片中死于吊颈的扶桑嫂竟然确有其人。他和诵共同走访案件发生地，却无意中得知了影片拍摄过程中的秘密……

回复 :本部饱受争议的离奇影片围绕马戏团里一群畸形人展开。矮人汉斯（哈利·厄尔斯 Harry Earles饰）暗自倾心于“正常人”——美貌的秋千表演者克里奥佩特拉（奥尔加·巴古拉诺娃 Olga Baclanova饰），同为侏儒人的弗里达（黛西·厄尔斯 Daisy Earles饰）告诫汉斯，她只是为他的钱财。克里奥佩特拉与“正常人”大力士赫克留斯（道格•霍奇森 Henry Victor饰）两人相好，设计让克里奥佩特拉嫁给汉斯得到钱财。婚礼上，克里奥佩特拉大吼在场的人都是“FREAKS”，激怒了所有畸形人。雨夜，畸形人对这两个“正常人”展开了报复……本片在1932年发行后因题材过于怪诞而被禁止，成为了当时的赔钱电影。可在当下来看，却是一部难得的“正常”影片。导演向我们抛掷了一个赤裸裸的提问：到底谁才是“正常人”？

But they may have met their match in New Friend, their latest victim, who starts to manipulate the foursome, setting one against the other.Bizarre combination of late sixties avant garde and sleaze. Director Freddie Francis had made horrors for both Hammer and Amicus but this is nothing like any of them. Shot on location with an atmosphere mixing playground horror and conservatory theatre that is downright weird and unsettling. The great lost girl of sixties British horror, Vanessa Howard, shines as she does in those other rarely seen gems Corruption [1967] and What Became of Jack and Jill [1972]. If Harold Pinter had made The Texas Chain Saw Massacre [1974] for the BBC this could have resulted. Excellent and unique.
