奥崎谦三，亚洲二战期间曾为日军独立工兵队第36连队的士兵随部队驻扎在巴布亚新几内亚。战后，亚洲奥崎并未回归平静安详的生活，而是展开了另一条常人无法理解的斗争之路。他曾因杀人入狱10年，还在新年朝拜天皇的仪式上用弹弓射击天皇，此后更以极其激烈和持久的方式追讨天皇在二战中的罪行。与此同时，奥崎的足迹遍布日本各地，只为追查一个真相：在战争结束的第23天，36连队有两名士兵遭到枪决，而这背后隐藏着残酷血腥且触目惊心的事实……本片荣获1988年蓝丝带奖最佳导演奖、1988年电影旬报最佳影片第2名（读者票选第1名）、日本电影导演协会新人奖。奥崎谦三于1997年出狱，2005年6月16日去世。
