回复 :高进（周润发 饰）前来香港与赌魔决斗，怎料刚抵港，便被南哥（杨泽霖 饰）追杀，结果堕入陷阱而失忆。幸得刀仔（刘德华 饰）和其女友珍（王祖贤 饰）相救，他们把高进带回家中疗养，发现高进精通赌术后，兴奋不已，想利用他来挣大钱，却反而因为高进发挥不稳亏了钱。高进妻子遭其堂弟高义醉酒后污辱杀害。高义进而联手南哥，设计谋害高进，四处搜罗进的藏身地点，前往追杀。逃亡之时，高进翻车受伤，竟恢复了记忆——但是却怎样也记不起失忆期间的事情。刀仔提醒进，高义并非好人，但进却毅然蒙在鼓里，不知危难当头。

回复 :影片以悲壮的笔触，描述了30年代时期，不丹国卡尔城金将军与日军勾结，在城里生产毒气，中国派遣特务“天字第一号”和现代镖局负责接出城主尤达。女镖师阿琼在爱慕尤达的金将军女儿芊芊帮助下，意欲和尤达一起逃走，但“天字第一号”力主要破坏毒气计划，结果被抓。金将军为救爱女，反过来帮助他们，与日军开始一场大战。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
