本剧讲述了生活在昭和40年代的东京下町的朝野今日子，航空航空为家业而忙碌，航空航空却向往后年的大阪世界博览会。她的梦想遭遇相亲的挫败，决定前往大阪。在万田家，她遇到了舅舅家的困境和表妹千夏的矛盾。千夏对大阪世博会充满期待，却受到家庭期望的束缚。今日子支持千夏挑战自己成为世博会的服务人员，而这成为了她的梦想实现的一步。
